Heirloom Quilt Show 2023

Bring one quilt to the July 2023 meeting that you consider to be an heirloom. We will have a lengthy show & tell where we can appreciate the quilts and talk about their history.

What is an heirloom?

An heirloom is known as a family possession that is handed down from one generation to another. For quilters, that isn’t always the case as some of us buy vintage quilts from auctions, thrift stores, etc.

However you came to be in possession of an heirloom piece is just fine with us! We want to see it and learn about any part of it that we can.

Optionally you can bring in a quilt you have made that you intend to be an heirloom piece for your family and talk about who you have given / are giving it to.

What should I talk about?

Prepare a story of sorts to tell us about the quilt. Here are some talking point ideas:

  • Who is the quilt maker?

  • How old is the quilt?

  • How did you come to be in possession of the quilt?

  • Who was it made for?

  • What, if anything, do you know about the history of the quilt?

  • Describe some of the details that you love about the quilt and what you find interesting about it. (can include materials used in the quilt, techniques used, colors, etc.)

Spectators and visitors are welcome to come watch the show!
