The Perry County Sewcial Club annual charity project for 2024 will be donating quilts that are lap to twin size to two separate organizations. There will be 6 months for us to work on these quilts at our own discretion. The due date for all quilts will be January 2nd, 2025.
Requirements:
Arbors at Carroll Nursing Home is requesting lap size quilts.
40” x 50” is our suggestion.Country Camo Outdoor Veterans Alliance is requesting twin size quilts.
70” x 90” is standard twin size.
We will take quilts as close to these sizes as we can get and disperse them accordingly, we will not be measuring them to ensure they are the “correct” size. We will not turn quilts away.
How can I donate services?: By donating finished quilts, offering to longarm someone else's tops, binding quilts for another member, getting together as a group to share fabric & labor in making quilts, etc.
How can I donate to supplies?: We will accept donations of batting, wide-back fabric for backings, and binding fabric. Or, you may donate monetarily to the project for these supplies.
Ideas & Suggestions:
Keep in mind when choosing fabric that all of these quilts are for adults, not children.
Feel free to label the quilts with your name and information if you’d like to.
3 - Yard Quilt Books by Fabric Cafe are perfect for nursing home lap quilts. They’re easy, require less fabric than complicated patterns, and the books are affordable.
There are many free resources online for easy and fast quilt patterns as well.
Quilts do not have to be long-armed, they can be tied with yarn or quilted on a domestic machine as well.
If you’d like to sew as a group to share duties feel free to ask in the club Facebook group to see if anyone is interested.(EX: “I have a finished top and backing ready, would anyone like to donate batting or quilting services?”)
Spread the word through other quilt clubs and groups or friends and family!
All finished quilts need to be delivered to us at the January 2nd, 2025 meeting, 6-8pm
This is the absolute last day we will work on the charity project and accept donations.
Is the mailing address the American Legion address I see? And is it only to benefit one school?
ReplyDeleteI’ve edited the post to include address. Thank you!
